A deep bow of reverence to my teacher, Moscelyne Larkin Jasinski, the co-founder of Tulsa Ballet, who died last night. If you are a dancer of any stripe in this region, Miss Larkin is YOUR pioneer. She united Native heritage with the highest of high art from the Ballets Russes tradition and passed on to countless students the passion, courage, and love that are the hallmarks of this art form. From the moment I began studying with her, at age 10, she taught me that there was much, much more waiting to be unleashed inside me than I realized — and that it would take years of disciplined work to let it fly free. She was right. And it was worth it. Thank you, Miss Larkin.
